During one day in Mauritius, in the morning you can be snorkelling among the colourful tropical fish, then have a cup of tea at one of the many tea fields on the island and in the afternoon you are having a delicious lunch at a lovely French chateau. There are so many beautiful chateau to visit in Mauritius but during our stay we visited only two and I will share our awesome experience there.
Most of the chateaux in Mauritius were built in the 19th century and the term often refers to the beautiful family houses of former agricultural landowners. These key witnesses to the history of the island have, each in its own way, managed to reinvent themselves to preserve a certain art de vivre so we can also enjoy this beautiful places today.
DAS CHATEAU MON PLAISIR
If you want you can visit inside but we only came here for lunch, witch turned into a longer visit. The garden outside the chateau is absolutely amazing, with many beautiful species of trees and even a little farm that you can visit for free. The animals here are the highlight of this place and if you visit this chateau I highly recommend you to go and see them.
It was a very lovely surprise to meet the albino deer, because I have never ever seen one myself, only in documentaries. We’ve spent a few good hours at this little farm, surrounded my chickens, deer, bunnies and even a peacock. The animals seem to be well taken care of, with plenty of space, water, food and love. So this is not the typical place where animals are treated bad.
It’s not hard to get here, as the place is very close to Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens and it can be easily reached by car. Right in front is a big parking lot where you can park for free. If you want you can only visit the chateau, or the garden, or you can just have a coffee or meal.

CHATEAU DE LABOURDONNAIS
This magnificent natural estate, the Chรขteau de Labourdonnais invites you to discover the nineteenth century Mauritian lifestyle, wandering around the beautiful gardens surrounding the building and then having a delicious meal at the lovely restaurant they have near the chateau.
We came here for lunch after attempting to snorkel a whole morning, because it was raining like crazy. But the rain created a very special memory to me about this place. We had a cozy afternoon here, after the delicious meal (the food was insanely tasty), a nice cup of coffee and then we started exploring the gardens. Don’t forget to bring repellent, because mosquitos are crazy. They are everywhere and very violent. I had this long skirt but somehow they found a way to bite me.
