When you are in Mauritius, Pamplemouss Botanical garden is a must visit. The place is literally a dream, like a fairytale, peaceful and relaxing. I can give you a million reasons why this place is worth the visit and some of them is that it is home to the most incredible variety of tropical plants, witch most of these plants are indigenous, hundreds of trees (many of them medicinal), flowers, there is a gorgeous lily pond with a good number of palm trees dotted around, they even have a few deer and tortoise living here, plus a many cute ducks walking around. Did I convinced you?

the lovely water lily pond
The highlight in the botanical garden is definitely the pond with the giant water lilies, a very impressive sight for sure and a must visit. The main attraction is the Amazon giant sea lily originated from the Amazon region in Guayana, Brazil and Bolivia. Their leaves are very large and swim on the water surface.
Here is a cute story about the flowers. While the beetles sit in the flower and enjoy the sweet nectar, the flower closes. The next day, the colour of the flower will change from white to pink, it reopens and the beetle is released and can fly to a new, white flower. How fascinating nature is!

the Lotus Pond
Very close to the giant water lilies is the Lotus Pond, where you can see the gorgeous Indian Lotus Flower. There was a cool breeze coming off the lake and the scent of tropical flowers and rain was something I will never forget. It was raining like crazy that day, but we still could enjoy the beauty of the place and took tons of photos. On one of the things that you can see only if it rains it is the water that pours in the lotus leaves and when it fills with enough water the water falls creating a very beautiful effect. When it is not raining people try this with drinking water. Very impressive!

when it rains it gets even more beautiful
I noticed many people are not comfortable with rain, but why not? It gives such a lovely vibe to the place and it gives so many unique photo opportunities. I embrace different and I love this type of moments that makes a place even more special and I can do things and photos that in normal weather conditions will be similar to so many others.
You can spend hours wandering through the garden, with or without rain, taking photos and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. When it is not raining, many visitors and locals have a picnic in the garden.

turtles & deer
Right at the beginning of the park is a little place where you can meet the giant tortoises and deer. Because it was raining I got the opportunity to take this cute photo of them with the heads out of the water. The deer where bathing in the small river created by the rain. Overall, to be complete honest I don’t like caged animals (the space was not super small, but they are not in the wild), but sadly sometimes to protect them they must stay inside.

the trees
I was so amazed and pleasantly surprised to see how many species of trees are in Mauritius and how beautiful they are, I have a good collection of photos of the trees of Mauritius and the Botanical Garden was another place to see even more awesome species. We lost ourselves in the stunning beauty of the myriad of plant species, lakes and we were simply amazed by the majestic trees adorned with lianas and were enchanted by the impressive scenery around us. Here we felt the connection with nature more than ever.
